Connect Stripe and take payments

Card money settles to your Stripe account, not ours. Servio never stores card numbers. A 10p test charge before the first service tells you more than a settings tick.

Payments default to Stripe at Stripe’s published UK rates: 1.4% + 10p in person, 1.5% + 20p on QR. Servio does not mark those rates up and does not hold takings. That is also why a Stripe verification hold stops charges everywhere, including on Servio.

Connect, then prove it

In the app, connect the Stripe account you already use or create one. Then run one live 10p transaction on the reader or phone you will use in service, and check it appears in Stripe. Do this on Thursday afternoon, not at 18:30 on Friday. Receipt and kitchen printing should be checked in the same quiet window. Printer setups vary by venue; during guided setup we help you verify both.

When a card will not go through

Check whether the failure is one card or every card. One card is usually the issuer declining. Every card means checking Stripe account status, because a payout or verification hold there stops charges on every till that uses that account. Take payment on an existing reader if you still have one and record it, then email us. Card payments and account access are treated as urgent on every plan.

Readers you already own

There is no proprietary Servio till. Default card-present payments run through Stripe on devices you already have. On Growth, Square readers you already own can connect as a switch aid so you are not binning kit on day one. That is a switch aid, not a hardware partnership. Toast and other reader connections are coming the same way. See the payments FAQ and security page.

We cannot complete Stripe’s identity checks for you. We will tell you which Stripe screen to open and what they usually ask for.

Common questions

Does Servio store card data?

No. Payments run through Stripe. Servio never touches or stores card numbers, which keeps PCI responsibilities to a minimum.

Can I keep using my Square readers?

On Growth, Square readers you already have can connect so you can switch without replacing them on day one. Default payments still settle through Stripe.

What are the card rates?

Stripe’s published UK rates: 1.4% + 10p in person and 1.5% + 20p on QR. Servio does not add a markup. Always compare all-in cost at your card volume on the methodology page.
